The criminalization of misogyny has become a new field of ideological dispute in Congress. Despite — including those from the entire PL bench, such as senator Flávio Bolsonaro (RJ) —, the project that equates the practice with the crime of racism reached the Chamber of Deputies under strong resistance from the right and with an exposed division within Bolsonarism itself, especially after divergent demonstrations between Flávio and his brother, former deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro.

Eduardo classified the text as part of an “unnatural and aggressively anti-masculine” agenda. and asked that it be “completely repudiated” — while Flávio, pre-candidate for President, had voted in favor hours earlier.

Behind the scenes, interlocutors assess that the episode reflects the dispute for political protagonism in the conservative field in an election yearhe can influence the performance of the PL bench during its processing in the Chamber.

Parliamentarians interviewed by Jovem Pan defended the project, but recognize the controversy that awaits it. Representative Simone Marquetto (MDB-SP) summarizes the dilemma: “The issue is not to block racist acts and generate a discourse that will veto many movements, including religious ones.” Representative Gisela Simona (União Brasil-MT) shares the concern: “It had negative repercussions. The issue is not to block racist acts and generate a discourse that will veto many movements, including religious ones.”

On the other side, deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG) classified the approval as “unbelievable” and promised to articulate the overthrow of the project. Mario Frias (PL-SP) called the text an “ideological gag”.

The pressure to advance the text comes from concrete data: in 2025 alone, almost 7 thousand women were victims of attempted femicides in Brazil. In the Chamber, this number will have to compete with a bench that, according to the Young Panis already moving to block the project even before the first hearing.
