North American Taylor Townsend and Czech Katerina Siniakova beat Italians Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani by 2 sets to 0, this Sunday (29), and won the women’s doubles title at the Miami Open. The partials of the match were 7/6 (0) and 6/1.
To reach the final, the pair eliminated Canadian Gabi Dabrowski in the semifinals last Friday (27).
With the victory in Miami, Townsend and Siniakova secured the two tour titles in the United States. They also won the title when, on that occasion, they beat Anna Danilina and Aleksandra Krunic in the final by 2 sets to 0, on March 15th.
With this, the duo guaranteed the “Sunshine Double”, which is when a tennis player/pair wins both traditional North American tournaments in the same season.
The result left the four tennis players within the top 5 of the WTA doubles rankings. Siniakova maintained second place with 7950 points and is now followed by Paolini, Errani and Townsend. All three have the same score (7385 points). The Belgian is number one in the world with 8658 points.
