The United Nations Force in Lebanon (Unifil, its acronym in English) announced, this Sunday (29), the death of one of its soldiers, the so-called blue helmets, after a projectile hit one of its positions in the south of the Arab country.

The peacekeeper died “tragically” on Sunday night when a projectile exploded at a Unifil position near Adchit Al Qusayr, where clashes were recorded between Israel and the Lebanese pro-Iran Hezbollah movement, a statement said.

“Another soldier was seriously injured. No one should lose their life in the service of the cause of peace”, Unifil added in the note.

Lebanon’s official news agency NNA previously reported that the hit position belonged to the Indonesian Unifil battalion.

The town of Adchit Al Qusayr is close to the border between Lebanon and Israel, where Israeli forces have been fighting with Hezbollah for almost a month.

The war in the Middle East spread to Lebanon in early Marchwhen Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel.

To be attack occurred after the assassination of Iranian supreme leaderAyatollah Ali Khamenei, on the first day of the Israeli and American offensive against Iran.

Israel responded with aerial bombings against Lebanon and Israeli forces carried out raids in several locations in southern Lebanon.
