Carolina Ortigão reflects on the education she gave her children: “I even raised their hands…”

Sílvia Alberto was on the podcast “Life is not what it seems” and reflected on how, nowadays, children are educated, and the topic was discussed on the ‘Red Carpet’ program this Monday, March 30th.

After listening to colleagues Sofia Jardim and Hugo Mendes talking about the subject, Carolina Ortigão gave her opinion and ended up reflecting on the education she gave her three children – Lourenço, Tomás and Duarte Ortigão.

“With my children, I looked and they had immense respect, but I even raised my hand to them, yes, they got a few lashes, I shouted at them, I shouted one time or another. Mico, my husband, I don’t think he ever raised his hand to one of the children, I did! I was much more severe, more rigid with them. They have some memories of that, but nothing that had traumatized them, not at all”he began by saying.

The commentator highlighted, however: “At the same time, I was very sweet and very present with them, but I didn’t tolerate it, nor do I tolerate it, and it makes me very confused to see parents being so permissive with their children in these times now.”assumed.

Carolina Ortigão was proud of her actions as a mother, reinforcing that “it’s scary” to see children disobeying and mistreating their parents: “So, it’s hard for me to understand this current generation, which thinks that children can do what they want (…). I don’t know what these grown-up children will be like, I see children responding to their parents, parents don’t know how to react (…), it’s very complicated (…). The education I gave my children is very different and I’m happy with the education I gave my children, however I understand that there were things I made mistakes, obviously I made mistakes, but that’s part of it”.
