Tarcísio acts in support of the Republicans for Flávio’s pre-candidacy

The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitasbegan to act internally so that the Republicans supported the senator’s pre-candidacy Flavio Bolsonaro (PL) to Presidency of the Republic em 2026.

According to interlocutors, the governor assesses that there is space to build one and intends to get involved in articulations within the party. The signal comes amid internal division within the party over which path to take in the presidential race.

Today, Republicans present different positions in the states. While leaders in the Northeast defend neutrality or maintain alignment with the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), sectors in the South and Central-West are already approaching Flávio’s project.

The Republican leadership predicts that a presidential election will only be held in May. There is dissatisfaction within the party regarding the PL due to the lack of gestures of support for Republican pre-candidates in state governments in five states.

Currently, the tendency of the majority of the party, according to sources, is towards neutrality in the presidential election.

A wing of the Republicans has been demanding in conducting this debate, given the governor’s political weight within the party.

The governor’s challenge will be to reverse internal dissatisfaction with the PL and overcome regional situations in which Lula is preferred.

Tarcísio’s more active entry into the conversations could accelerate the process of internal unification and influence the party’s direction on the electoral board. On the other hand, sources say that support will only happen if the majority decides.
