A collective mandate of councilors in the Osasco City Council filed, on Monday (27), an action with the Public Ministry of São Paulo requesting an investigation against the city hall for the disposal of around 40 thousand books from the Monteiro Lobato Library, on the grounds that the collection was moldy.
In the representation, the authors of Coletivo JuntOz ask for the investigation of possible negligence with the municipality’s cultural heritage, made up almost entirely of donations, in addition to a possible crime against public property.
The collective requests that the city hall present a technical report to prove the fungal contamination in the books that led to the disposal, in addition to a detailed list of the works that were sent to the trash and what the replacement plan will be for all discarded books.
The action also requests that an urgent expert report be produced on the discarded and rescued material to verify the infection and its possible origin.
The group also requests the immediate establishment of a public civil inquiry to determine the responsibility of Mayor Gerson Pessoa and the municipal secretaries responsible for the Department of Culture.
