- The laboratory is located outside the secured area, the extent of the damage is not yet known.
- Rafael Grossi warned that attacks on nuclear facilities increase security risks.
- The management of the power plant reports zero injuries and Kyiv has not yet commented on the incident.
- The Zaporozhye power plant is under Russian control, it does not produce electricity, the IAEA monitors it.
The affected laboratory is located outside the secured premises of the power plant. The IAEA said it was unclear at this time whether it had been damaged and requested access to the incident site. IAEA Director Rafael Grossi warned that any attack near a nuclear facility may pose a risk to nuclear safety.
According to the management of the power plant, there were no injuries. Kyiv did not immediately comment on the incident.
This largest nuclear power plant in Europe has been under Russian control since March 2022 and does not currently generate electricity, clarifies the DPA. Ukraine tried several times to get the power plant under its control, but these efforts failed. The IAEA team is always present at the site to monitor the situation and help prevent a nuclear accident, adds DPA.
