BAD news from a European country: Cruise ship passenger showing symptoms of hantavirus infection

One of the five French people who were evacuated to their homeland on Sunday from the cruise ship MV Hondius, which was infected with hantavirus, is showing symptoms of the disease, announced French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu. TASR informs about it based on the AFP report.

“One of them had symptoms during the repatriation flight,” wrote Lecorna in a post on Platform X. “These five passengers were immediately placed in strict isolation until further notice,” he added, adding that they were receiving medical attention and awaiting tests.

Lecornu also stated that he will issue a decree on the introduction of isolation measures for contacts of repatriates and to protect the public on Sunday evening. The plane with five French evacuees landed shortly before 4:30 p.m. CET at Le Bourget airport near Paris on Sunday. They were then transferred to five ambulances and taken to the Bichat hospital in Paris with a police escort.

Meanwhile, the Spanish Ministry of Health announced that on Sunday, from the cruise ship MV Hondius moored on the island Tenerife evacuated more than 90 of the nearly 150 people on board, including passengers and crew members. The cruise ship’s evacuation began immediately after it docked at Tenefira on Sunday morning. It will continue on Monday, after its end the ship will sail to the Netherlands around 20:00 CET, where it is registered. The last evacuation flight will depart for Australia.
