The governor (Republicans) said that (-RJ) asking for money is a concern, but defended the ally’s stance so far and stated that the episode should not compromise candidacies.
“It’s an issue that worries, that must be clarified, because today this scandal is at the center of attention of all Brazilians”, said Tarcísio, commenting on the case, during an event for the delivery of houses in São Bernardo do Campo, at ABC Paulista, this Thursday (14).
The governor, who is coordinator of (PL’s) son’s campaign in , said that the senator had already provided clarifications on the topic and asked him to maintain this conduct.
“Flávio immediately sought to provide all the clarifications, entered the field, spoke about what it was about, and I think he needs to continue providing clarifications as the questions arise, because it is essential that everyone is confident in the relationship, in what happened”, he added.
When he was first questioned about the request for money, Flávio said that the request for resources was a “lie”, according to a report by The Intercept that revealed the audio this Wednesday (13). After the repercussion of the case, in the late afternoon,.
When asked about possible damage to Flávio’s campaign, he denied it. “I don’t think so. I think there is already fatigue with the PT, material fatigue, an inability to sell hope.” He also cited high interest rates as reasons for government wear and tear.
Tarcísio had refused to address the matter on Wednesday. This Thursday, when taking a position, he said that he did not speak to the senator about the issue.
The governor confirmed that he met with actor Jim Caviezel, protagonist of the film that motivated the senator’s request for money from the banker, at the end of last year – other Bolsonarist politicians also met the artist. He said, however, that he did not know that Flávio was asking for resources from Vorcaro for the project.
Tarcísio was asked, but did not answer whether he will attend a pre-campaign event scheduled for Friday (15), in the interior of the state, in partnership with Flávio, to launch federal deputy Guilherme Derrite (PP-SP) into the Senate.
On the subject, also pre-candidate for the Government of São Paulo Fernando Haddad (PT) sought to bring the banker’s name closer to Bolsonarism and the right when questioned on Wednesday. “There is no possible relationship between the Bolsonaros and the Master. It’s just one thing,” said the former Finance Minister of the Lula (PT) government, speaking to journalists after an event in São Paulo.
“Jair Bolsonaro received campaign donation from Daniel Vorcaro. Tarcísio de Freitas [também] received a donation”, said Haddad, who then made reference to former members of the ex-president’s government, and concluded by saying that “Vorcaro is a scion of the Bolsonaro government”. Vorcaro’s brother-in-law and pastor of the Lagoinha Church, Fabiano Zettel was the biggest donor to Jair Bolsonaro and Tarcísio de Freitas’ campaigns in 2022, with R$3 million and R$2 million respectively.
Without mentioning names, Haddad made reference to the former head of the Social Communication Secretariat Fabio Wajngarten, who was hired last year to work in Vorcaro’s defense, and also to the former minister of Bolsonaro’s Civil House, senator Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI). The target of a PF operation last week, under suspicion of receiving an allowance of R$300,000 to R$500,000 to defend Master in Congress, Ciro denied having received illicit payments. It was he who presented the so-called Master amendment, which benefited the banker, and which was also mentioned by Haddad.
This Thursday morning, Haddad posted the video on his profile accompanied by the phrase: “If it has a pig’s snout, a pig’s tail, a pig’s ear, it can only be a pig.”
