A driver activated a device that released smoke from the exhaust of a truck to try to escape a pursuit by the PRF (Federal Highway Police) on Wednesday night (May 27, 2026) in northern Paraná. The escape attempt ended with the seizure of 961.8 kilos of marijuana and the arrest of the 29-year-old suspect.
Second from the PRF, the truck was identified between the municipalities of Ourizona and São Jorge do Ivaí, at around 9:15 pm. After receiving an order to stop, the driver fled along the highway and activated the equipment that emitted smoke during the chase.
Despite the attempt to hinder police action, the suspect lost control of the steering wheel, left the road and abandoned the vehicle. He then tried to escape through a forested area, but was located and arrested by agents.
During the inspection, police officers found 961.8 kilograms of marijuana in the truck. The PRF also found that the vehicle was traveling with tampered license plates and that the original car had been stolen in São José dos Campos (SP), in October 2025.
The driver told agents that he picked up the cargo in Mato Grosso do Sul and would take it to Londrina, where he would receive payment for transportation.
The man, the drugs and the truck were taken to the Maringá Civil Police Station. According to the PRF, he could be charged with drug trafficking, disobedience, tampering with a vehicle identification sign, reception and dangerous driving.
