On Thursday, the Siamese twins underwent the first necessary surgery at the National Institute of Children’s Diseases (NÚDCH). The aim of the operation was to ensure the patency of the intestine and to create stomas. The operation went according to plan and both patients managed it without complications. Their state of health is currently stabilized to the extent that their diagnosis allows. TASR was informed about this by NÚDCH spokesperson Dana Kamenická.
“The girls had their first necessary surgery today, which they did very well. So far, everything is going according to plan and without any unexpected complications. Now, above all, they need time to recover, gain strength and other professional examinations, which will help us more accurately map their anatomical conditions and plan the next course of treatment.” said the director of NÚDCH Peter Bartoň.
The spokeswoman pointed out that after the operation, the girls are hospitalized in the neonatology clinic of intensive medicine, where a multidisciplinary team of experts provides them with continuous intensive care. According to Kamenická, the next period will be focused on their recovery, growth support and the implementation of further diagnostic examinations, which will enable a more detailed assessment of anatomical conditions and the preparation of a long-term treatment plan.
Due to the extraordinary medical complexity of the case, the next procedure will be carefully considered and coordinated by experts from several medical fields. “The hospital will continuously inform the public about significant changes in the health status of patients or further steps in treatment,” the spokeswoman added.
