Bia Zaneratto celebrates goal in the friendly against England, in Manchester

The Brazilian women’s team beat England 2-1 this Saturday (25), in a friendly held at the Etihad Stadium, in Manchester. The winning goals were scored by Bia Zaneratto and Dudinha in the first half. Stanway scored against the English team in the final stage, with a penalty kick. The duel was watched by 37,450 fans.

The result ends a recent unfavorable sequence against the current European Cup champions: in the last four clashes, Brazil had won only once. The meeting also served as a preview of the 2026 Finals, a tournament that will once again bring together the Copa América and Euro champions.

The team led by Arthur Elias started better and quickly opened up an advantage. In the 8th minute, Dudinha found Bia Zaneratto in the area, who finished low to make it 1-0. Shortly after, in the 17th minute, the roles were reversed: Bia served Dudinha, who extended the ball with precision into the left corner. The match changed after Angelina was sent off in the 20th minute, for a foul on Toone when he prevented a clear goal. With one player less, Brazil closed down and began to deal with greater opposing pressure.

In the second half, England pulled one back after 6 minutes. Stanway converted a penalty suffered by Beth Mead, in which Bia Zaneratto brought down the attacker. Goalkeeper Lorena touched the ball, but did not prevent the goal. From then on, the game became one of English attack against Brazilian defense.

Despite the pressure, Brazil managed to hold the score until the final whistle. The team returns to the field on Tuesday (28), when they face Italy in Parma, at 1:15 pm (Brasília time), in another preparatory friendly.
