MP asks for action on Banco Master donations in electoral campaigns

The Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Federal Audit Court (MPTCU) asked minister Jhonatan de Jesus to adopt measures to examine any donations made by the party in electoral campaigns. The request was made by Deputy Attorney General Lucas Rocha Furtado, on Friday, 30, as part of the process at the Court of Auditors involving the financial institution, under the report of Jesus.

In November 2025, the Central Bank (BC) decreed the extrajudicial liquidation of Master. The authority cited a serious liquidity crisis and significant impairment of the bank’s economic and financial situation, among other findings. At TCU, the case entered the agenda last December, when minister Jhonatan de Jesus gave the municipality 72 hours to justify what he called an “extreme measure”.

Since then, the case has been in court. The Court monitors the legality of the liquidation process, under the report of Jesus, with no prospect of reversing what was determined by the BC. The movement provoked criticism of the TCU’s performance, with questions about the Court of Auditors’ limits in the process.

In the letter sent on Friday by the MPTCU, it was asked whether it would be up to the TCU to examine the electoral campaign donations made by Banco Master.

“This analysis could not only bring greater transparency about the financing of electoral campaigns, but also contribute significantly to a deeper understanding of the scandal involving the Master case and the various actors involved in it”, argued Lucas Furtado.

In the same request, the deputy attorney general recognizes that the Court of Auditors may understand that this new line of supervision is the responsibility of the Electoral Court. If this is the conclusion, the letter requests that the Public Electoral Ministry be contacted so that the appropriate measures can be taken.

“By directing this issue to the appropriate instance, it will be possible to advance in the investigation of the facts and the accountability of possible irregularities… I reiterate that this case requires special attention and firm action on the part of the TCU, not only to investigate the operations of acquiring credit portfolios by BRB, but also to investigate developments involving public authorities and federal institutions”, argued Furtado.

Inspection of documents on the liquidation of Banco Master is part of the instructional process conducted by the technical area; In theory, it does not need the approval of the plenary. The case will be submitted to the plenary, with the vote of the rapporteur, after this referral.
