“This is from an internet meme that portrays President Trump as king of the jungle and Democrats as characters from The Lion King. Please stop the fake outrage and inform today about something the American public really cares about,” White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said in a statement to AFP.
Reacting to the video, Senator Scott said he was “praying it’s fake” and urged Trump to take it down.
“Every single Republican must immediately condemn Donald Trump for his disgusting bigotry,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said on Platform X, calling Trump a “sick individual” who is “disgusting, insensitive and malicious.”
Video with the Obamas
Almost the entire 62-second clip, which appeared on Friday night among dozens of posts by the president on his social network Truth Social, appears to come from a conservative conspiracy video that claims that voting machines were deliberately tampered with in some US states during the 2020 elections, the AP agency specifies. At 60 seconds there is a short scene with two primates showing the smiling faces of the Obamas.
Trump himself did not immediately comment on the release of the video.
