During a pro-Iran rally outside the United States consulate in the Pakistani city of Karachi at least eight people lost their lives. About 20 others were injured. This was stated by the spokesman of the rescue service for the AFP agency, saying, that most of the injured had gunshot wounds.
AFP added that the US consulate in Karachi was stormed on Sunday morning in response to the US-Israeli attacks on Iran hundreds of pro-Iran demonstrators tried to invade. The local reporter AFP clarified, that the crowd was mostly young people, who climbed through the main gate and reached the driveway of the consular building, while breaking several windows on it. The police used to disperse the crowd tear gas.
It follows from the video recordings taken on the spot that že demonstrators wanted to avenge the death of the Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who became one of the victims of Saturday’s attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran. Thousands of demonstrators also took to the streets in the city of Lahore in the east of Pakistan and in the city of Skardu in the north of the country. In the afternoon, a demonstration is also expected in Islamabad, namely in the diplomatic quarter, where the American embassy is also located.
Hundreds of demonstrators tried to break into the heavily guarded Green Zone in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Sunday. This is the district where the United States Embassy and several international organizations are located. Iraqi leaders, including influential Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, have since expressed regret over the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In connection with this, Iraq declared a three-day state mourning.
