Do you also do this after an accident? This common driver reaction turns into a death sentence on the highway!

After a traffic accident, it is not safe to remain seated in the vehicle and deal with phone calls or administration directly on the road. This is pointed out by the police, who are launching a series of preventive videos aimed at correct behavior immediately after a traffic accident. The goal of the campaign is to increase the safety of road users and prevent tragic consequences that can occur even after the accident itself. TASR was informed about this by the spokesman of the Presidium of the Police, Roman Hájek.

“A traffic accident is always a stressful situation. After a collision, a queue often forms, drivers are nervous and deal with the damage. But in such moments, one’s own safety must not be underestimated. (…) A stationary vehicle on the road, especially on busy sections, highways or expressways, represents a serious risk. There is a risk of being hit by another vehicle whose driver may not register the obstacle in time. Secondary traffic accidents are often more serious than the original collision,” clarified the police.

She emphasized that after a traffic accident, it is necessary to immediately turn on the warning lights and, if the situation allows, to get out of the vehicle safely. The reflective vest must be worn before the performance. Then you have to move to a safe distance off the road, ideally behind barriers or as far away from traffic as possible. The place of the accident must be marked with a warning triangle at a sufficient distance. V in case of personal injury or if the conditions for dealing with a damage incident without the presence of the police are not met, it is necessary to contact the emergency line 158 or 112 immediately.

The police force reminds that the protection of life and health always takes precedence over solving administrative duties. Documenting the accident, communicating with the insurance company or filling out the traffic accident report must not be done in a way that endangers the participants in the accident or other drivers.
