Ukraine has no information that the United States plans to divert weapons intended for Kiev to the Middle East. On Thursday, the Ukrainian ambassador to NATO told AFP, writes TASR.
The American newspaper Washington Post reported that that the Pentagon is considering whether to divert weapons in connection with the war against Iran, which is depleting America’s stockpiles. It could be air defense missiles ordered under the program, which allows NATO allies to buy American weapons for Kyiv.
“We have not received any signals from NATO or the United States that weapons allocated to Ukraine in the PURL program could be diverted to the Middle East,” Alyona Getmanchukova, head of the Ukrainian delegation to NATO, told AFP. “Nor have there been any indications that the war in Iran would lead to changes in the availability of weapons needed by Ukraine under the PURL,” added.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said on Thursday that Kiev is still receiving key military equipment, even as the Iran war is depleting supplies in Europe and the United States. This also applies to the American Patriot anti-aircraft missiles, which Ukraine urgently needs.
