The company Danone is withdrawing the initial infant formula Nutrilon 1 profutura Dubiotik from the Slovak market due to the presence of the toxin cereulid. The Office of Public Health (ÚVZ) of the Slovak Republic informed about this. With the fact that it does not recommend further use of the mentioned batch of the product for the preparation of food for infants. TASR was informed about this by the ÚVZ communication department.
“The company Danone announced to the ÚVZ SR that it is withdrawing the initial infant formula Nutrilon 1 profutura Dubiotik, 800 grams, date of minimum durability 05.11.2027 from the market in the Slovak Republic,” said the office.
He added that the company decided to withdraw the mentioned food from the market based on the results of the laboratory analysis of the State Agricultural and Food Inspection in Prague, which confirmed the presence of the cereulide toxin in the said batch of the product. The product batch in question was distributed from the Czech Republic to Slovakia. ÚVZ specified that customers have the option to return the mentioned food to the seller in the Slovak Republic where they purchased it.
ÚVZ recalled that contamination of food with cereulide (a toxin produced by the bacterium Bacillus cereus) can mainly cause loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and malaise, but it is not possible to exclude more serious health effects. Symptoms can appear 30 minutes to six hours after eating contaminated food.
In younger infants, cereulide may alter the body’s salt balance and lead to complications such as dehydration. ÚVZ specified that possible negative health effects depend on the age of the infant, with newborns and infants younger than six months being at higher risk of more serious effects.
