Economic stability is needed in an election year, says Durigan

Minister of Finance stated in a Chamber hearing that global war still puts pressure on inflation and monetary policy in several countries, such as Brazil

The Minister of Finance, Dario Durigan, declared this Wednesday (June 17, 2026) that Brazil needs to preserve economic, political and social stability in an election year. The statement was given to journalists after participating in a public hearing at the Finance and Taxation Committee of the Chamber of Deputies.

“There is a need and importance to maintain stability in an election year”declared the minister.

According to Durigan, the dialogue between the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary was decisive for the country’s recent advances. He cited the expansion of the Income Tax exemption range, sectoral regulations and tax reform as examples of measures created in conjunction with the National Congress.

“Everything that is being discussed in the country, everything that was beneficial to the country, such as the exemption from Income Tax, the regulations for different sectors, the tax reform, was done together with the National Congress. It is important to value this dialogue, because there is no way to advance in any other way”these.

The minister stated that inflation continues to be a challenge for Brazil and other economies, due to the effects of geopolitical conflicts on global economic activity.

“Inflation is a topic that should concern everyone. There is a disruptive war in the world, which has disrupted the economy in various parts of the world. Just look at the data from other countries, you can see that inflation continues to put pressure on monetary policy and authorities in other countries, as is happening in Brazil”he declared.

Durigan said that the Ministry of Finance monitors the evolution of prices, especially food, and works to mitigate impacts on fuels through fiscal responsibility.

According to the minister, the recent drop in fuel prices in Brazil could gain strength if the reduction in international tensions is confirmed.

“The price of fuel has been falling in Brazil. I hope that now with this recently announced ceasefire, the decrease in the price of oil will continue, causing inflation to decrease with the reduction in fuel prices”he stated.

Durigan also highlighted the importance of completing the economic agenda scheduled for the end of the legislative semester.
