65% are indifferent to Trump’s support for a presidential candidate

The support of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, for a candidate for President of Brazil is indifferent to 65% of voters, who say that this will not influence their vote in October. This is what Datafolha research released this Saturday (20) indicates.

For 17%, the support of the President of the United States for a candidate would increase voting intentions. Another 15% say it would decrease. Another 3% were unable to answer.

Datafolha interviewed 2,004 interviewees, aged 16 or over, in 139 cities, from June 17th to 18th. The margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points, with a 95% confidence level. The research is registered with the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) under number BR-09956/2026.

Proximity

Despite not having made a public statement about the Brazilian election, the family of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is close to the republican. At the beginning of the month, Trump published a photo next to the senator and presidential candidate, Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), at the White House, where they met. “An intelligent young man who loves his country, Brazil,” said the US president.

The relationship between Lula and Trump is marked by ups and downs. After the beginning of US economic sanctions against Brazil, last July, the two met at the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), where the American said he had a “chemistry” with the PT member.

Contact between the two seemed to improve, with the two meeting at the White House in early May this year for three hours. But, with the new proposed tariffs on Brazil for alleged unequal trade practices and the use of products derived from forced labor, the relationship deteriorated.

Volatile squid

In an interview with the website Axios, this Friday (19), Trump said he “doesn’t care” about the president of Brazil.

“I don’t really think about him. I don’t care. But now he’s a different kind of person. He’s very volatile. I saw how he gave a speech. It was very volatile, and that’s OK,” Trump said.
