Operation in Copacabana reveals 140 buried glass bottles

Inspectors also identified an ambulance with an irregular storage of drinks and furniture from an unidentified establishment

In the early hours of this Tuesday (Dec 31, 2024), the (Municipal Public Order Secretariat) of Rio de Janeiro an operation on Copacabana Beach, in the South Zone of the city. Inspectors discovered 140 bottles glass buried in the sand.

The action, which had the support of the Municipal Guard, Comlurb (Companhia Municipal de Limpeza Urbana do Rio de Janeiro) and Military Police, aimed at security and environmental preservation in one of the most visited places in Brazil, especially before the New Year’s Eve celebrations. , a period in which the ban on glass objects on the beach is reinforced.

The Secretary of Public Order, Brenno Carnevale, mentioned the need for the operation. “It is important to highlight this preventive work to seize glass utensils, which are prohibited from being sold on the sand and which could put people’s physical integrity at risk”he stated.

During the operation, an ambulance parked on Rua Constante Ramos was identified as an irregular deposit of drinks and furniture belonging to a commercial establishment not yet identified by the City Hall.

“Seop’s intelligence sector identified suspicious movement around the vehicle and continued to monitor the activity until the infraction was caught. Inside the ambulance, or rather, the warehouse, were drinks, chairs and other items from an establishment in the region, not yet identified by City Hall. To date, no one responsible has been identified or charged.”, a Seop.

In addition to removing the glass bottles and the ambulance, the operation resulted in the disposal of drinks unfit for consumption, which were stored for illegal sale.

During the 30th, 49 illegally parked vehicles were removed and 4 irregular camps were dismantled.
