Medium Vietnam is on alert because of a typhoon, moving residents to safety

Vietnam plans to evacuate more than 250,000 inhabitants from the coastal areas before the arrival of a typhoon Buali, which should hit the middle part of the country. According to the AFP report, TASR reports this.

The storm, which is the tenth storm in Vietnam this year, is currently at sea and reaching the wind speed of 130 kilometers per hour. According to the Meteorological Agency, it should hit the mainland at 7 pm local time (14.00 CEST).

Evacuations in cities

The largest city of Central Vietnam Danang plans to evacuate over 210,000 inhabitants, the state media reported. At the same time, more than 32,000 inhabitants of Hue, located near the coast, are to move to safer areas.

More than 15,000 inhabitants of HA Tinh – known as the key center of steel production – should be evacuated to schools and health centers that serve as temporary haven, the authorities said.

Preparations for typhoon

Almost 117,000 soldiers were mobilized. Four home airports were closed and all fishing boats on the typhoon route were dismissed back to the port.

The typhoon should reach the wind speed of about 133 kilometers per hour at a time when it hits the mainland on Sunday evening, the Vietnamese National Center for Hydrometeorological Predictions said on its website.

“This is a rapidly moving storm with very strong intensity and a wide range that can cause a combination of various types of natural disasters, such as strong winds, heavy rain, floods, landslides and coastal flooding,” the state media quoted.

Impact of climate change

Scientists warn that storms are becoming increasingly strong, because the world warms as a result of climatic changes caused by man.

According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture, natural disasters claimed more than 100 victims or missing in the first seven months of 2025.

Vietnam suffered a $ 3.3 billion economic loss in September last year as a result of the Yagi typhoon that hit the north of the country and claimed hundreds of victims.
