Iran warns of a new front in the Báb al-Mandab strait, threatens to interfere with oil transport

Iran threatens to open a new front in the Báb al Mandab Strait, a key artery of world trade. He warns that it can seriously threaten oil routes in the Red Sea.

In the event of a US ground invasion, Iran could open a new front in the Bab al-Mandab Strait of the Red Sea, important for the world’s supply of oil and other goods leading to the Suez Canal. This was reported by the Iranian media on Wednesday, citing an unnamed military representative of the country, writes TASR according to the AFP and Reuters agencies.

  • Iran warns against opening a new front in the Báb al-Mandab Strait.
  • Tehran makes the opening of the front contingent on an American ground invasion of Iranian territory.
  • Iran declares both the will and the ability to seriously threaten the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
  • Iranian intelligence services are recording a plan to occupy an Iranian island by regional enemies.
  • Iran threatens to attack the key infrastructure of an unnamed country in the region.

“If the enemy attempts a ground operation on the Iranian islands or anywhere else on our territory, or if he tries to bring cargo to Iran through naval maneuvers in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, we will open other fronts as a ‘surprise,'” the Tasnim news agency quoted the official as saying.

Danger to the strait

“The Bab al-Mandab Strait is among the most strategic sea straits in the world, and Iran has both the will and the ability to pose a truly serious threat to this strait,” the source continued.

Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Baker Kalibaf, later said that according to intelligence findings, “enemies” were planning to occupy the Iranian island with the support of an unnamed country in the region. “Iranian forces are monitoring enemy movements and if they take any action, we will attack important infrastructure in this regional country,” he said on the social network.
