Alongside governor Eduardo Leite, president of the PSD stated that a decision on the candidate who will run for President will be made in the next few days
The president of the PSD, , stated this Wednesday (25th March 2026) that there is no room for alternatives in the party’s internal dispute. In an interview with journalists alongside the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, he declared that “the politician who admits plan B is because he lost”. The speech took place at the same time as the event of , in Shopping Iguatemi São Paulo.
According to Kassab, the decision has not yet been taken, but should be announced in the coming days. He highlighted that the party is plural and encompasses different currents, with support divided between names like Eduardo and Heráclito Fortes. “I have the responsibility to forward the decision, but it doesn’t exist yet”he stated. According to him, a decision on the candidacy should be made by the end of March or beginning of April.
The PSD leader commented on his departure from the dispute, classifying the move as surprising. Despite this, he praised the ally’s stance, saying that he was “honest and correct” by recognizing difficulties and withdrawing before a formal definition.
After Kassab’s speech, Eduardo Leite reinforced that he is fully focused on making his candidacy viable and avoided speculating about alternative scenarios. According to him, leaving the position of governor would only make sense in the face of a bigger project. “I will only leave the mandate if it is for something even more important”these.
When expanding the debate, Leite stated that the next presidential election will have a decisive impact on the country. For him, the claim “it will define what type of policy we will pursue in Brazil” and also the future of Brazilian society.
Leite also defended the construction of a central alternative, capable of dialoguing with different sectors. According to him, it is possible to bring together agendas from the right, such as public security, and the left, such as social issues, to overcome political polarization.
Kassab states that, regardless of who is chosen, all names are available to the party and must act in an integrated manner in the campaign.
