The Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, during the biweekly debate
On the one hand, the Government calls for responsibility when driving. On the other, an apparent negligence on the part of the Prime Minister.
The GNR – National Republican Guard itself does not hide it: 18 deaths in 4 days is “scary”.
This Easter was the most mortal of recent years inroads Portuguese. In addition to those (more than triple last year), there were another 2,000 accidents, with practically 700 injuries – 42 of which were serious injuries.
This Sunday, the minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, left: drive responsibly.
“On this Easter day and returning home, I make a very strong appeal. Slow down. Don’t drive under the influence of alcohol. Avoid distractions. No trip is worth a life.”
This is because all these deaths and all these accidents “are not just numbers. They are lives. They are destroyed families”.
And because “each avoidable accident is a collective failure – of the State, and we will assume our responsibilities, but also of each one of us”, continued the minister.
Luis Montenegro is being accused precisely of being irresponsible that street
The Government published a letter, also this Sunday, marking the Prime Minister’s 2nd birthday, in which Montenegro appears in the car without seat beltwhile traveling through the streets of Lisbon.
O driver Henrique, apparently, also appears without a seat belt throughout this trip. And it is likely that neither videographer had a belt, judging by his movements.
Complaints have already multiplied on social media. On the well-known page (Raquel Costa), it reads: “You could argue that, beyond the fine (which I have serious doubts will exist), both Luís Montenegro and his driver are only putting their own lives in danger. Agreed. But then there is the example part”.
“Luís Montenegro missed an excellent opportunity to do pedagogy. Do better, Prime Minister. Set an example. It costs nothing”, comments A Gaja.
