The victims were between 1 and 14 years old, the police spokesperson told reporters at the scene, Chris Bordelon. The suspect died after a confrontation with police officers during the chase.
According to police, the attacks are related to domestic issues. Some of the victims had a family relationship with the shooter.
After the crimes, the suspect stole a vehicle and tried to escape. The police gave chase and fired shots, resulting in the man’s death.
The mayor Tom Arceneaux classified the episode as the most serious ever recorded in the city. “This is a tragic situation, perhaps the worst we have ever had”he stated.
