Cole Tomas Allen, a California resident who was staying at the Washington Hilton, where the Correspondents’ Association event – a press dinner – was held – opened fire there. According to CBS News, Allen told authorities he was targeting Trump himself.
According to local police, he was carrying guns and knives. Allen, who was detained at the hotel yesterday, is receiving hospital treatment and is expected to be formally charged on Monday (27). According to federal prosecutors, he will be accused of using a firearm during a violent crime and assaulting a federal agent using a dangerous weapon. The suspect exchanged gunfire with Secret Service agents, but was not injured.

Allen appeared to target members of the government, the U.S. attorney general said. “Very preliminary” information led investigators to believe that the man “was targeting members of the government,” Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told CBS broadcaster.
The suspect, who is believed to have traveled from Los Angeles to Washington by train via Chicago, is “not actively cooperating” with the investigation, he added.
The White House spokeswoman said Allen wanted to kill Trump and many administration officials. Trump was the target of an assassination attempt during an election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in 2024. A few months later, another man was detained after a Secret Service agent saw the barrel of a rifle sticking out of bushes on the perimeter of the West Palm Beach coup field where Trump was playing.
What was supposed to be a fun night at the dinner with President Trump delivering jokes and celebrating free speech was hijacked by a depraved crazy person who sought to assassinate the President and kill as many top Trump administration officials as possible.
