Murderous heat is mowing down Europe: Spain already reports more than 1,000 dead, average temperatures are out of the norm

At least 1,028 people died in Spain during the latest heat wave that hit several European countries in June. stated on Wednesday the Health Institute of Charles III. This is more than double the number of deaths attributed to the heat in June 2025, reports TASR, citing the AFP agency.

In this regard, the Spanish meteorological service Aemet said on Wednesday on the X network that the first six months of this year were the country’s warmest since records began, with an average temperature 1.6 degrees above normal. June 2026 was the second warmest sixth month of the year – the average temperature was 3.2 degrees above normal.

The Aemet service noted that in Spain, seven of the warmest first half-years have occurred in the past ten years. During the June heat, historical temperature records were broken in Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, and June records were set in Great Britain and Switzerland. The night of June 25 was the hottest in the history of measurements in France, with an average temperature of 22 degrees.
