Tarcísio receives medal in MG and criticizes polarization in the country

Governor of SP won Great Necklace of Inconfidência and questioned whether heroes would be satisfied with Brazil today

The governor of São Paulo, (Republicans), received the Grande Colar da Inconfidência in a ceremony held in Ouro Preto (MG), this Tuesday (21.Apr.2026), during an event that celebrates Tiradentes Day and the Inconfidência Mineira. In a speech, the governor criticized what he called political polarization in the country.

The Inconfidência Medal was created in 1952 by Juscelino Kubitschek. The decoration represents one of the main honors related to the history of Minas Gerais. During his speech, Tarcísio de Freitas criticized the federal government without directly mentioning the president (PT). The governor questioned whether the heroes of the Inconfidência Mineira would be satisfied with Brazil today.

“We are dealing with the inefficiency of the management of public resources. We still don’t understand the role of the public sector, which cannot do everything alone. Perhaps we spend a lot of energy on polarization that leads to nothing. If the rebels were here, now, what would they say to us?”declared Tarcísio de Freitas in his speech.

The governor highlighted in his speech the role of the inconfidentes and highlighted the importance of Minas Gerais for Brazil. According to him, the State “stands out in all fields”.

Tarcísio continues: “But, more than 200 years later, have we become a country like the one thought by the rebels? We have a lot of potential, but we insist on throwing away opportunities. Between 1980 and 2019 we alternated 26 years of advances and 14 years of crises. There are many crises that impoverish us and keep us away from a future of prosperity that we deserve”.

The governor thanked him for the honor received and stated that receiving the Grande Collar da Inconfidência “it is more than an honor, it is assuming a debt to the history of Minas Gerais, to those who, with blood and sweat, dared to think of a free Brazil”. He received the Grande Collar from the governor of Minas Gerais, (PSD).

During the event, Tarcísio also praised the former governor and presidential candidate (New), who was present. The governor of São Paulo stated that Zema managed to recover Minas Gerais through fiscally responsible work.
