Institute will bring together the most representative indicators of the situation of women in the dimensions investigated by the Census
IBGE promotes a meeting dedicated to the presentation of the Panorama on March 26th “Women in the 2022 Demographic Census”. At the event, which will be held at Casa Brasil IBGE Rio de Janeiro and online, experts from the institute will discuss strategic indicators that reveal gender inequalities in Brazil, from the national level to the municipalities.
Although several Census releases provide data by sex, this information is scattered across different themes. The Panorama brings together, in a single space, the most representative indicators of the situation of women in the dimensions investigated by the Census, offering a transversal and integrated view of gender inequalities.
The coordinator of the IBGE’s Thematic Commission on Social Relations, Gender and Sexualities, Daléa Antunes, said that the analytical perspective provided by Panorama makes it possible to identify inequalities that often remain invisible in aggregate statistics. With this, the initiative can contribute to guiding more effective public policies for women and men.
“The Census has the capacity to reveal these differences on a very detailed territorial scale, reaching the level of municipalities and even neighborhoods. In a country as diverse and unequal as Brazil, this granularity is fundamental to give visibility to the different realities experienced by women and men in different territories and population groups”he declared.
The event will feature speeches from experts about the 2022 Census, highlighting topics such as women’s experience in collection; education and people with disabilities; fertility and family composition; indigenous people and quilombolas, among others. Special guests will also address the importance of data for public policies at different levels.
The organization of data seeks to facilitate society’s access to information and serve as a basis for evidence-based analysis, research and public policies. This initiative adds to the efforts undertaken in previous Censuses, with the publication of the SNIG (National System of Gender Indicators 2014) and the Triennial Information of the Coordination of Population and Social Indicators, “Gender Statistics – Social indicators of women in Brazil” (2017, 2021 and 2024).
By providing an Overview dedicated to inequalities between men and women, IBGE reaffirms its commitment to transparency, the democratization of information and the production of evidence for qualified public decisions, in line with the 2030 Agenda.
